Aromatherapy Carrier Oils

In Aromatherapy, carrier oils will often be used to mix with essential oils for massage, and other aromatherapy treatments.

Since you will be applying these carrier oils directly to your skin, it is important to choose a carrier oil that is pure and has no additives.

When choosing a carrier oil for use in Aromatherapy, many aromatherapists will choose an oil that blends well, and has very little to no smell. This way they can assure that the natural scents of the essential oils they are using, are not lost in the smell of the carrier oil it is blended with.

Common carrier oils used in aromatherapy include:

Many essential oils that an aromatherapist will use, are too concentrated to be applied directly to the skin. This is only one of the reasons for using a carrier oil. Another reason is, some essential oils will not absorb into the skin easily. However, once blended, the “carrier oil” actually helps “carry” the essential oil of your choice into your skin.
